Manaccom was one of Australia's oldest software publishers, founded in 1986 and based out of Brisbane. It also published to New Zealand with distribution managed by Total Interactive.
Manaccom was previously the principal distributor of video games by Apogee Software, Epic MegaGames, Safari Software and id Software in Australian and New Zealand territories but later changed its focus to application software. Manaccom's software distribution operations expanded significantly after obtaining the rights to distribute the Trend Micro range of consumer Internet Security software.
Manaccom's decision in 2009 to switch from distribution of Trend Micro to McAfee Internet Security software resulted in substantial operating losses. In an attempt to restore profitability a significant restructure was undertaken, including a renegotiation of the McAfee distribution contract and the removal of company founder, Ian Mackay, from his position as board member and general manager.
These measures proved insufficient to return the business to a viable state. As of 2 February 2011, Manaccom Pty Ltd has gone into administration. To date, no other company has taken on the McAfee consumer Internet security distribution business for Australia or New Zealand.
