Regionalist League

Regionalist League

Regionalist League (in Catalan: "Lliga Regionalista") was a political party of Catalonia, Spain, that appeared thanks to the triumph of the candidacy of the "four presidents" in 1901. This candidacy was formed by Sebastià Torres, Albert Rusiñol, Bartomeu Robert and Lluís Domènech i Montaner.

It had a catalanist, conservative, and monarchic ideology.

When the Republic was established (1931), the Lliga accepted the new government, supported the first Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia and changed its name to Catalan League ("Lliga Catalana"). Although the Lliga did not support the rebellion of general Francisco Franco in Morocco in 1936, a great part of its activists collaborated with Franco's cause. Fact|date=February 2007

Notable members of the party were Enric Prat de la Riba, Francesc Cambó and Ramon d'Abadal i Calderó.

The Lliga's press organ was the newspaper "La Veu de Catalunya" (1899-1936).
