ong information

The song was featured in the motion picture "The Devil Wears Prada". "Jump", however, was not included on the soundtrack of the film when the soundtrack was released. The single was not released in France or Japan, even though the music video was shot in Japan. Madonna performed "Jump" on her 2006 Confessions Tour. The song was later featured on the 2008 season finale of ABC's "Ugly Betty". Madonna included elements of the song in the performance of her classic hit "Into the Groove" on 2008's Sticky and Sweet Tour, making it only the second appearance of any "Confessions on a Dancefloor" song on the tour along with "Hung Up".

Some controversy has arisen over Madonna's extreme resemblance to the anime character "Mello", from the show "Death Note". Fans of the show have pointed to the similar appearance of both Mello and Madonna in the music video, as well as the fact that the video was filmed in Tokyo, where most of the series takes place.fact|date=September 2008

The song borrows its chord structure from Pet Shop Boys' classic West End Girls.fact|date=September 2008

Chart performance

In the US, "Jump" peaked on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart at number 21. It has also peaked at #1 on all 3 of the US Dance Charts (Dance Club Play, Dance Single Sales, and Dance Radio Airplay), along with the Billboard Single Sales chart. On April 10, 2008, "Jump" re-entered the Billboard Hot Dance Singles Chart at #5. [{ [http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/charts/chart_display.jsp?g=Singles&f=Hot+Dance+Singles+Sales Billboard Hot Dance Single Sales] ] "Jump" is also Madonna's 37th #1 single on the Billboard Dance Club Play chart. Despite high hopes for the single (given the heavy promotion in "The Devil Wears Prada" film trailer), on the U.S. Hot 100, it failed to show on the chart. The single stalled at #105.

In the UK, "Jump" became Madonna's fourth successive Top 10 hit from the "Confessions on a Dancefloor" album, peaking at number 9, a year to the week since "Hung Up" had topped the chart. This chart position was considerably good due to the fact that many stores in the UK were not stocking the single and has sold 52,038 copies. In Australia, the song debuted in the top 30 in November. In Italy "Jump" become her third number 1 single from "Confessions on a Dancefloor", remaining in the top 10 for 14 consecutives weeks. The single also did considerably well in Africa, reaching #1 on the South African charts, where it remained for 2 weeks following heavy promotion of the movie, "The Devil Wears Prada".

Music video

The music video was shot in Tokyo, Japan on September 19 2006 while Madonna was on the Japanese leg of her Confessions Tour. Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, Madonna is seen wearing a short, platinum blonde wig, and in a sequence filmed on a sound stage, as her dancers perform free running through the streets of Tokyo and on a fake Chevrolet Camaro. Many of the various signs and billboards on the storefronts and buildings have been altered to read "Madonna" and "Jump" in Japanese.

"Jump" premiered on AOL, then VH1 in the US (but never on MTV in the US) and on Channel 4 in the UK, all on October 4, 2006. As of November 17, the video became available on iTunes. The video won the Best Dance Music Video Award at the International Dance Music Awards in 2007.

An official promo-only remix video of "Jump (Jacques Lu Cont Remix Edit)" was released by Warner Bros. Records on May 19, 2007 through Madonna's online fanclub, Icon.

* *Track length listings for "History" on Maxi-Singles are incorrect. The song is 5:55 in length, not 6:54, as stated, because Warner decided not to put the original version of "History" on the single, but a shorter remix (by Stuart Price) with the backing vocals being the lead vocals, instead of the higher original vocals.

* **In Japan, a promotional-only 1-track CD single for the live version of "Jump" was released on March 7, 2007 to promote "The Confessions Tour" CD+DVD.
