Publication

The "Australasian Journal of Educational Technology" is published by the Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ASCILITE), four times per year in both online and print versions. Access to the online version of an issue is restricted to subscribers for the first three months after publication, thereafter the issue becomes open access, requiring neither subscription nor registration. All previous issues, dating from 1985, are accessible online.

History

The "Australasian Journal of Educational Technology" was originally published as the "Australian Journal of Educational Technology" by the Australian Society for Educational Technology in 1985, with two issues per year. From 1997-2005, the journal was published jointly by ASCILITE and ASET, and from 2006 by ASCILITE. Publication frequency increased to three issues in 1999, and to four issues in 2005. From 2004, the journal carried a new title containing "Australasian" instead of "Australian", in order to align it with its main sponsor, ASCILITE, and to make it more inclusive to authors from nearby countries.citation|first1=Roger|last1=Atkinson|first2=Cameron|last2=Richards|title=Editorial|journal=AJET|volume=20|issue=1|year=2004|url=http://ascilite.org.au/ajet/ajet20/editorial20-1.html.]

In 2007, the AJET board approved a merger from the "International Journal of Educational Technology" (IJET, ISSN 1327-7308). [citation|title=Editorial|first1=Roger|last1=Atkinson|first2=Catherine|last2=McLoughlin|journal=AJET|volume=23|issue=2|year=2007|url=http://www.ascilite.org.au/ajet/ajet23/editorial23-2.html.] IJET was an online-only open access peer-reviewed journal that had been sponsored jointly by the University of Western Australia and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and that published five issues from 1999 to 2002.
