KQCA is the MyNetworkTV-affiliated television station for Sacramento, California, USA. Licensed to Stockton, the station broadcasts an analog signal on UHF channel 58 and a digital signal on UHF channel 46. KQCA's transmitter is located northeast of Walnut Grove. The station is owned by Hearst-Argyle Television as part of a duopoly with NBC affiliate KCRA-TV. The two stations share studios located on Television Circle in Downtown Sacramento. KQCA is known on-air as "KQCA My 58 TV"".

As a result of the duopoly, local rights to syndicated shows such as "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and "Access Hollywood" are shared between KCRA and KQCA.

KQCA does not follow the 8 to 10 PM primetime MyNetworkTV schedule like other affiliates of the network. Instead, the station airs network programming from 7 to 9 PM and "The Oprah Winfrey Show" from 9 to 10 p.m. leading up to the 10 p.m. newscast that is produced by KCRA. KQCA is the second in the market to not follow a traditional network schedule. The other station KOVR has had a 7 to 10 p.m. lineup since its network switch to CBS in 1995. KQCA is also one of three MyNetworkTV affiliates on the West Coast that do not follow the 8 to 10 p.m. scheduling. The other stations to do this are KRON-TV (which has network programming slotted from 9 to 11 p.m.) and KMYQ (which also airs network programming from 7 to 9 p.m.).

History

The station went on the air on April 13, 1986 with the call letters KSCH. It originally was an independent station and aired classic television shows of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Some shows that were aired had not been seen since their original network / syndication runs. KSCH was also the first stereo sound station in the Sacramento / Stockton / Modesto area built from the ground up.

In 1994, KSCH entered into a local marketing agreement (LMA) with Kelly Broadcasting, the owner of KCRA. That station then took over the operations of KSCH.

On February 1, 1995, the station changed its call letters to its current call sign KQCA, became an affiliate of UPN, and changed its on-air branding to "Q 58". On January 5, 1998, it swapped affiliations with KMAX and became an affiliate of The WB. When Hearst-Argyle Television bought KCRA and its LMA with KQCA in 1999, the "Q 58" branding was dropped in favor of its call letters and channel number. Hearst-Argyle eventually bought KQCA outright in 2000 and the station adopted the "WB 58" branding in September 2004.

On January 24, 2006, the WB and UPN networks announced that they would cease broadcasting and merge to create a new network. The new network would be called The CW, the letters representing the first initial of its corporate parents CBS (the parent company of UPN) and the Warner Bros. unit of Time Warner. It was announced that KMAX would become an affiliate of The CW.

On February 22, 2006, News Corporation announced that they would start up another new broadcast television network called MyNetworkTV. The new network, which would be sister to FOX, would be operated by FOX Television Stations and its syndication division Twentieth Television. MyNetworkTV was created in order to give UPN and WB stations, not mentioned as becoming CW affiliates, another option besides becoming independent. It was also created to compete against The CW.

KQCA began broadcasting MyNetworkTV on September 5, 2006. KMAX began broadcasting The CW on September 18, 2006.

In August 2007, KQCA became the new home of Oakland Raiders pre-season games. It took the broadcasting rights from KMAX.

Current Personalities/Joined Date

Sister station KCRA produces several newscasts for KQCA. This includes ones at 6am-9am (6am Simulcast from KCRA), 10pm on weekdays and 10pm on weekends. Like KCRA, all of the newscasts on KQCA are broadcasted in HD. During all newscasts, KQCA uses KCRA's news helicopter that is known as "LiveCopter 3 HD". During all weather forecasts, KQCA uses KCRA's regional weather radar that is known as "KCRA 3 Live Triple Doppler".
