Sledge's career began in by|2004 with theMontreal Expos . He moved with the team toWashington, D.C. the following season as the Expos relocated to the American capital, and hit the first-everhome run for theWashington Nationals . He was traded to the Texas Rangers along with fellow outfielderBrad Wilkerson forsecond baseman Alfonso Soriano onDecember 7 , by|2005. He was then traded to theSan Diego Padres in a six-player deal onDecember 20 .
His best season came in 2004, when he batted .269/.336/.462 with 15 home runs and 62 runs batted in.Before playing with Montreal and the major leagues, Sledge played with the
Edmonton Trappers shortly before the team was moved toRound Rock .Sledge prepped at John F. Kennedy High School in
