WMIL-FM (106.1 FM) is a country music-formatted radio station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, licensed to Waukesha, Wisconsin. They are known on-air simply as "FM 106.1". WMIL is owned by Clear Channel Communications.

On April 25, 2006, Clear Channel announced that WMIL's HD2 subchannel will carry a classic country music format from their Format Lab called "The Wolf". This format was moved to sister station WOKY (920) on September 18, 2008, and the HD2 channel now carries a format of "new country" [http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=796198] .

History

WMIL at 106.1 FM emerged in 1983 as the sister station of WOKY. It's been a leading country station since then, and still is often at the top of the local ratings. The owners chose to use the WMIL call letters so when combined with their sister station, the two stations created the name "MIL-WOKY". Prior to being WMIL, the station was a low-power country station in Waukesha called WAUK-FM and simulcast WAUK.

In 2006 WMIL installed a new transmitter with HD Radio capability on the Milwaukee Public Television tower.

In 2007, WMIL was voted "Top Country Station in a Large Market".
