Lincoln East High School is a public secondary school located in Lincoln,
Nebraska ,USA . It is part of theLincoln Public Schools school district.History
Lincoln East was opened in 1967. It became the fourth high school in
Lincoln Public Schools . In the past, it has utilized an eight-period schedule, however it currently operates on a seven-period day. It was the newest public high school in Lincoln until the construction ofLincoln Southwest High School andLincoln North Star High School in 2002 and 2003, respectively. With the adoption of blue and white as school colors, Lincoln East became the first public Lincoln high school without black as a school color. Its mascot is Martin the Spartan. A statue of Martin stands in the south entrance.Forensics
East Speech has won seven consecutive state championships. Speech has won a total of 25 State Championships during the High School's existence.
East Debate has grown rapidly over the past several seasons. East Debate won 4 state NIT championships during 8 years, and was State Debate Champion in 2007.
Each year, a number of East Forensics participants qualify for the National Forensic League (NFL) tournament. In 2008, there were 16 national qualifiers. East had 2 qualifiers in 2008 for the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) tournament.
Music
East High has an award winning music program. The marching band is 200+ strong and has received a number of Superior ratings at competitions across the heartland, including winning Best Music, Best Effect, and Best Marching in their division, along with winning their division. They placed 7th out of 12 finalists. They are also traveling to London, England in the 2008/2009 school year to march in The Queen's New Years parade. The annual Orchestra production, also know as "Finale", is another staple to the East High Music department. Past themes include "A Night at the Oscars with John Williams," "Pirates of the Caribbean," and "James Bond."
School Grounds
East High owns land adjacent to the school, containing land only immediately around the school building.
Seacrest park is the legal owner of most outdoor school facilities, including the track and baseball fields, however the land is primarily used by East. Seacrest field, the main Lincoln Public Schools football field, is adjacent to the school. The school parking lot is part of Secreast field. Although directly next to the school, the field is technically owned by the school district. School grounds are used in the
Cornhusker State Games opening ceremony, the LPS Marching Invitational, and theNebraska State Bandmasters' Association (NSBA) State Marching Competition, as well as the venue for most of Lincoln's high school level football games. It is named after the Seacrest family, former owners of the "Lincoln Journal" ofLincoln Journal Star fame.Sports
