Jabalpur District is a district of
Madhya Pradesh state in centralIndia . The city ofJabalpur is the administrative headquarters of the district.The area of the district is 10,160 km² with of population 2,167,469 (2001 census). Jabalpur District is located in the
Mahakoshal region of Madhya Pradesh, on the divide between the watersheds of Narmada and the Son, but mostly within the valley of the Narmada, which here runs through the famous gorge known as the Marble rocks, and falls 30 ft. over a rocky ledge (the "Dhuan dhar", or misty shoot ). It consists of a long narrow plain running north-east and south-west, and shut in on all sides by highlands. This plain, which forms an offshoot from the great valley of the Narmada, is covered in its western and southern portions by a rich alluvial deposit of black cotton-soil. At Jabalpur city the soil isblack cotton soil , and water plentiful near the surface. The north and east belong to basin of theSon River , a tributary of theGanges andYamuna , the south and west to the Narmada basin. The district is traversed by the main railway fromMumbai toKolkata , and by branches of two other lines which meet atKatni junction.The district is part of

Jabalpur is famous for its bheda ghat water falls which is also known as Marble Rocks. Marble Rocks is full with scenic beauty and provide great sights when water fall from great height. Presently Marble Roacks is famous tourist attraction ,and people travel from different places to see this wonderful Water falls.Jabalpur has its historical importance ,Since its known as Sanskar dharni of Madhya Pradesh State. The city is quickly progressing in different spheres.Jabalpur has also provided Wonderful engineers from its 50 years old Engineering college,Jabalpur Engineering College,which is known for its lush green campus and experienced faculty.
