North Yorkshire inEngland , a few miles north ofHarrogate on theA61 road towardsRipon .It has a castle dating from the 15th century,
Ripley Castle , which has been the home of the Ingilby family for several centuries. The present owner isSir Thomas Ingilby , 6th Baronet (seeIngilby Baronets ), the 28th generation. The castle which has apriest hole , is open for public tours. The landscaped castle grounds which contain ornamental lakes are also open to the public. It is notable because a nineteenth century Ingilby tore down the old village and remodelled it after an Alsatian village with an 'Hotel de Ville'. The castle and the parish church were not remodelled.External links
