Kati Winkler

Kati Winkler (born January 16 1974 in Karl-Marx-Stadt (today Chemnitz)) is a German figure skater and specialized in ice dancing.

Kati Winkler was a team in ice dancing with René Lohse. They won the bronze medla at the World championships in ice dancing in 2004. This was the greatest success for the German icedancers since 1973, the time of Angelika Buck/Erich Buck. They were also the first German icedance pairs which qualified for the Grand Prix final. 2001 they became 5th in the Grand Prix final. In 2003 they were qualified but had to withdraw due to an illness.

Kati Winkler is the daughter of Bernd Winkler und Christina Schmerbach. She has a sister. In Karl-Marx-Stadt she started skating with the age of 6. At first she was a single skater and was coached by Peter Meyer. Still single skater she moved to Berlin in 1985 and was coached by Jürgen Bertko there.

Kati Winkler and René Lohse teamed up in 1987 to continue with ice dancing, which was not officially supported in East Germany for decades. Until 1996 their coach was Knut Schubert. The became the last East German champions in ice dancing In 1996 they moved to Oberstdorf in Bavaria and changed also their coach to Martin Skotnicky. However Winkler/Lohse skated always for the club SC Berlin (earlier SC Dynamo Berlin). After the World championships 2004 they finished their amateur career.

Kati Winkler is a skilled clerk. She also worked as a choreographer for Christina Beier and William Beier, the current German champions in ice dancing.

Kati Winkler and René Lohse still participate in ice shows.
