Hong Kong Trade Development Council

Hong Kong Trade Development Council

Established in 1966, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC; Chinese: 香港貿易發展局) is the international marketing arm for Hong Kong-based manufacturers, traders and service providers. With more than 40 offices around the world, including 11 in the Chinese mainland, the HKTDC promotes Hong Kong as a platform for doing business with China and Asia. The HKTDC also organises trade fairs and business missions to connect companies with opportunities in Hong Kong and the mainland, while providing information via trade publications, research reports and online.

The Council

The HKTDC is governed by a 19-member Council of Hong Kong business leaders and senior government officials. It plans and supervises the HKTDC's global operations, services and promotional activities. The Council also oversees the operation of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Jack So is the eighth HKTDC Chairman since the Council's establishment. He was appointed by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on October 1, 2007. The Executive Director of the HKTDC, Fred Lam, is responsible to the Council for the HKTDC's worldwide operations.

Business Missions

The HKTDC organises hundreds of promotional events and business missions overseas each year to help Hong Kong companies develop new markets for their products and services.

Online Sourcing

The HKTDC takes its sourcing expertise online with www.hktdc.com/sourcing [http://www.hktdc.com/sourcing] . The award-winning website enables users to find business partners, products and services quickly and efficiently. "Hong Kong Trader" [http://www.hktdc.com/hktrader] , the HKTDC’s online magazine, is e-mailed to more than 250,000 corporate executives and decision-makers each month.

Through its business matching services, the HKTDC helps Hong Kong companies find the right partners. Its online global databank includes about 700,000 business contacts. The HKTDC’s customised business-matching service [http://www.hktdc.com/businessmatching/] , helps companies worldwide identify, screen and meet potential business partners.

Trade Fairs

One of the world’s major trade fair organisers, the HKTDC mounts more than 30 international trade fairs annually in Hong Kong. Eight of these are the biggest of their kind in Asia, while World SME Expo [http://www.hktdc.com/worldsmeexpo] is among the world’s largest events for small and medium-size enterprises.

Product Magazines

With 15 industry trade magazines and a worldwide circulation of more than two million copies a year, the HKTDC is a major publisher. More than magazines, the HKTDC produces a wide range of penetrating research reports each year, providing detailed analysis of Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and international markets.

Bilateral Cooperation

The HKTDC’s international reach is reflected in the six bilateral committees it serves. These high-level business forums help promote economic ties between Hong Kong and the European Union, France, Japan, Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States. Ad-hoc meetings are also organised annually with various Chinese mainland provinces and municipalities and Taiwan.
