Virtual microscope

Virtual microscope

The Virtual Microscope project is an initiative supervised by Rutgers University to make and behavior of some small organisms explorable online. The server is located in the northern USA and the images are from Antarctica and the Baltic Sea. The user can click into the details of interest and get images of higher magnification or resolution, increasing to Scanning Electron Microscopy images, Transmission Electron Microscopy images, and at the end, peer reviewed publications. On larger objects the arrow keys of the keyboard can be used as the crosstable on a real microscope is used. This project also introduces young learners to the internet and the capabilities of web browsers, search engines and databases. The editor board consists of professors from universities on both sides of the Atlantic.
