The name "Camel" derives not from the animal but from the word "cantmeel", by which name West Camel was formerly known. "Cantmeel" itself derives from the words "cant-ridge" and "mael-bare."
Some historians believe the area surrounding the village to be the site of the final battle of
King Arthur , theBattle of Camlann .The church, reached from a cobbled lane, has a lofty tower, built in 5 stages.
