Stephen Robert Tindall, DCNZM (born May
1951 ), is the founder ofNew Zealand retailer The Warehouse .Stephen Tindall founded The Warehouse in 1982 after 12 years with retailer George Court & Sons as Merchandise Director. He held the position of Managing Director until January 2001, when he became known as the Founder.
The Warehouse Group now has 85 retail and 36 Warehouse Stationery stores in New Zealand. In 1995 he and his wife set up the [http://www.tindall.org.nz/ Tindall Foundation] , to provide and hand up to New Zealanders in need.
"The
New Zealand Herald " named him Business Person of the Year for1997 , the year he became an Officer of theNew Zealand Order of Merit .In
1998 , he was named the Deloitte–"New Zealand Management" magazine Executive of the Year.Two universities - AUT and Massey, bestowed honorary doctorates on him in subsequent years.
In
2006 , he was awarded the Blake Medal on behalf of the Sir Peter Blake Trust in recognition of his outstanding leadership contributions to New Zealand.In
2007 , Tindall was made a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of services to business and the community in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
