Joya (full name: Joya Owens; born
1973 inDetroit ) is anR&B singer who released her debut album "Here I Am" onJune 20 ,1995 on the Atlas/A&M record label. Her debut single was "I Like What You're Doing To Me" is described as having an R&B feel with a touch ofHip hop . It reached number 46 on the Billboard charts towards the end of 1995. Her second single "Gettin' Off On You", was released and hit number 67 on the BillboardHot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. TheCD single was packaged with acondom , emphasizing the single's racylyrics . Joya made appearances onSoul Train andBET , but the LP managed to sell a little more than 100,000 units in the U.S. according to Billboard Magazine. OnSeptember 25 ,2001 , she released her first album in over 6 years, titled "Pages from the Book of Life: Chapter 1" on the independent label Caramel Park. The album sold less than 10,000 copies. Over the years Joya has worked with successful artists such asMonifah ,Spice 1 ,Tragedy Khadafi ,Lords of the Underground , &Mary J. Blige .Discography
