2009 Charity Basketball Incident
On Saturday November 14, 2009, members of the Nashoba Regional High School boys basketball team played a team of former New England Patriots players. During the game, the Patriots players became physically and verbally abusive. Former players Garin Veras and Matt Chatham were singled out for their inappropriate behavior. The charity event was a fundraiser for the Stow Police Benevolent Association. Officers of the Stow Police Department were supposed to play with the high school players but did not show up to the event.[1]
About
- NRHS is home to a Concord Area Special Education (CASE) program of vocational education for students with substantial special needs (ages 15–22).
- The school also offers the unique NRHS Cadet EMT Program, which trains high school students and allows them to serve as EMTs on the Bolton Ambulance Squad. Students involved in the program carry pagers in their classes, and are alerted to any emergency in the town's jurisdiction needing Emergency Medical Services. It is one, of only a handful of programs like it in the United States.
- In 2007, 2008 and 2009 Nashoba Regional High School was ranked in the top 5% of public high schools in the US by Newsweek.[2]
Nashoba Robotics
- The Nashoba Robotics Team, which participates in the annual FIRST Robotics Competition, has experienced major gains since the team's inception in 2005. In their first competition, the team experienced significant wins, utilizing a simple brush system to prove both an effective autonomous scorer and a defensive player. In the 2006-2007 season, the team came in 15th place in the Boston Regional Competition. The following year, despite having their most sophisticated design to date, the team did not make it out to the final round at the Boston Regional Competition. The following year, despite earnest efforts from team members the robot experienced severe electronic difficulties, limiting the team's successes at the Boston Regional Competition.
- In the 09-10 season, the team came back in full force, winning first place in the Boston Regional Tournament. At the International FIRST Robotics Competition in Atlanta, Georgia, the team performed well as a defensive robot.
- Nashoba Robotics receives crucial support from the local community in many forms, including monetary donations and mentorship. The robotics team also enjoys the sponsorship of Cisco systems, a platinum sponsor of the team, and other sponsors including Intel, IBM, and Bose Corporation.
