Peter Howes

Peter Howes is a retired professional clarinetist and the older brother of singer/actress Sally Ann Howes. His father was British comedian/actor Bobby Howes, and his mother was actress Patricia Malone. Peter Howes married Jacqueline, the daughter of Jerry Desmonde.

Howes was a professional musician of primarily the clarinet but also of the bass clarinet. His principal teacher was Reginald Kell. Among his many professional credits, he played with the London Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic, Principal Clarinet with the BBC Concert Orchestra, and Principal Clarinet with the English National Opera Orchestra. He retired in 1982 and continued as Clarinet Professor, Examiner, and Lecturer at Trinity College of Music in London.

He is the author and editor of three books on the clarinet:

Discography

The album is subtitled "An Entertainment With Poems By Dame Edith Sitwell" and features the voices of Cleo Laine, Annie Ross and Dame Edith Sitwell. Also featured is an Instrumental Ensemble directed by John Dankworth which also features Ralph Izen, Ray Swinfield, Peter Howes, Fred Alexander and Tristan Fry.
