W. J. Derek Howes (birth registered January→March 1913 (age 97–98) in Pontardawe district[1]) is a Welsh former professional rugby league footballer of the 1940s and '50s who at representative level has played for Wales, and at club level for Wakefield Trinity, playing at Second-row, i.e. number 11 or 12, during the era of contested scrums.[2]

Derek Howes won caps for Wales while at Wakefield Trinity 1948…1950 5-caps.[3]

Challenge Cup final appearances

Derek Howes played Right-Second-row, i.e. number 12 in Wakefield Trinity's 13-12 victory over Wigan in the 1945–46 Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium on 4 May 1946.[4]
