- Fresh Writers Books
Fresh Writers Books is a book publishing company based in Uniontown, Ohio. The firm offers summer internships and book publishing contracts to high school students who win a book proposal contest.
The contest was created in 2004 by publisher Bill Jelen to celebrate Small Press Month in March 2004. Jelen publishes technical books on the Holy Macro! Books imprint. Jelen challenged students at Uniontown Lake High School to prepare a book proposal for a novel. The proposal would have to cite competing entries and explain why the student believed that their novel deserved to be written. Eight entries were received and four students were offered internships to develop their novels during the summer of 2004. All four novels were published in spring of 2005.
Winners from the first competition were:
* Tessa Hershberger, writing Confessions of a Girl
* Josh Moorhead, writing Bakers Dozen
* Lee Galada, writing A World of Difference
* Ashley Shawntel (pen name of Ashley Hennaman), writing The Hearts FlamesFor the 2005 competition, students from across Northeast Ohio submitted entries. Two novels are being developed for the spring 2006 publishing season.
