"Why Not" is a song written by Charlie Midnight and Matthew Gerrard, and recorded by Hilary Duff. It was a single from the soundtrack of "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" (2003), in which Duff starred. "Why Not" is an inspirational song that encourages individuals to be themselves instead of worrying what others think. The chorus — "why not/take a crazy chance" — urges listeners to take a risk and do something big.

Disney International released the single internationally on June 23, 2003 (see 2003 in music). The CD single release included a remix of "Why Not", a remix of "I Can't Wait" and the music video. Later in 2003 a different version of "Why Not" was released on Duff's first album, "Metamorphosis". In the UK the song was released as the second single from "Metamorphosis", as a double A-side with "Come Clean".

Singer Michelle Branch said in a 2003 interview with "Rolling Stone" that she felt it was, at the time, the worst song she had heard recently: "One lyric stuck in my head: "You always dress in yellow when you wanna dress in gold"", she said. "I heard that and I was like, "Oh, man, what is going on with music these days?" But, hey, whatever floats your boat." [Scaggs, Austin. "Why Not" was Duff's mainstream debut single. It was re-recorded with new lyrics, and re-released as the first single off her album, Metamorphosis.

The re-recorded version was remixed, with a little rocker arrangement, and released on Most Wanted.
