The Royal Bank Building at 20 King street West (coord|43.6492|N|79.379|W|display=inline,title|region:CA-ON_type:landmark) in Toronto, is one of a few of RBC Financial's offices in the downtown core. Construction on 12 storey tower commenced with the laying of the corner stone by then Royal Bank of Canada Chairman James Allan in 1964.
Further east is the original Royal Bank building. Built in 1914 and designed by architect firm Ross and Macdonald, it was the tallest building in Toronto and the British commonwealth after its completion. It rises 20 stories above the northeast corner of Yonge and King streets. Today its offices house many firms and the main floor is occupied by a mattress store and a fast food restaurant. It served as the bank's Toronto offices until the Royal Bank Plaza was completed in 1977.
