homepage = http://www.brrice.org/Brother Rice High School is an all-male, Catholic, college preparatory institution located in
Chicago, Illinois . Located in theRoman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago . On the same block of land, directly to the east, is the all—femaleMother McAuley Liberal Arts High School , whileSaint Xavier University is located just to the south of Mother McAuley, and to the southeast of Brother Rice. Its enrollment is mostly drawn from local neighborhoods such as Beverly, Mt. Greenwood, West Lawn, Morgan Park and Ashburn, as well as local suburban municipalities such as Burbank, Oak Lawn, Alsip, and Evergreen Park. The Christian Brothers ofIreland founded the school in 1956. Thus, the school's namesake is owed to the founder of their religious order, BlessedEdmund Ignatius Rice .Academics
Academically, the school is a college preparatory school. The minimum graduation requirements for every student give them the minimum qualifications to enter any state university in Illinois. [ [http://www.brrice.org/Academics/academics_graduation.htm Graduation requirements] ]
Students are required to take four years of
Theology . Freshman and sophomore students are required to complete ten hours of community service, while juniors and seniors are required to complete ten hours of community service per semester. Juniors and seniors are permitted to apply for a waiver for the semester requirement, ad move all of their community service hours to one semester or the summer, if they receive approval to do so (generally if the student i involved in a large scale community service project). [ [http://www.brrice.org/Academics/academics_courses.htm Course descritions] ]The school offers the following
Advanced Placement courses: Spanish Language, French Language, U.S. History, and European HistoryThe school also offers one of the
AP Computer Science courses, but calls it "AP Java" without specifying whether the course is AP Computer Science 'A' or 'AB'. The school also lists an "Advanced Placement" Computer Science course usingC++ , though this has been discontinued by theCollege Board as an option in their AP program, which exclusively emphasizes Java. [ [http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/sub_compscia.html?compscia Overview of AP Computer Science A] ] [ [http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/sub_compsciab.html?comsciab Overview of AP Computer Science AB] ] The school lists a single AP course which prepares students to take both theAP English Language andAP English Literature tests. TheAP Calculus class permits students the option to take either the 'AB' or 'BC' AP test. [ [http://www.brrice.org/Academics/academics_courses.htm Course descritions] ]Currently a four-
