binary star in theconstellation Ara. It is approximately 1140light years fromEarth .The primary component, γ Arae A, is a blue-white B-type
supergiant with anapparent magnitude of +3.5. It's companion γ Arae B, is a white A-type main sequence dwarf with an apparent magnitude of 10.5. The two stars are separated by 17.9arcsecond s on the sky and their combined apparent brightness is +3.31.Reference
