Ron Affif is an American
jazz guitarist .A native of Pittsburgh, he studied with
Jerry Conderata andJoe Negri before heading to the West Coast in 1983 to study under maternal uncle andbebop greatRon Anthony . While in Los Angeles he also took lessons from the legendaryJoe Pass . He moved to New York City in late 1989, and currently lives in Brooklyn.In the late 90's, he cut five albums under the Fantasy label, of which the best is "52nd Street". Currently, he can be caught with drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts, bassist Essiet Essiet, and fellow Pittsburgher and brilliant piano man Dave Budway, making a regular gig at the Zinc Bar, downtown
Manhattan , onHouston Street .Affif's style is reminiscent of
Wes Montgomery andGeorge Benson , and Benson once described Affif playing as his, "favorite type of guitar player... one that plays with fire."References
