The men's 50 metre pistol competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held on August 17 at the Markópoulo Olympic Shooting Centre near Athens, Greece. Mikhail Nestruyev from Russia, who had set a new Olympic record in the 10 metre air pistol event three days earlier, but failed to win the final, finally won his Olympic gold medal followed by two Koreans, in a competition that was close but did not exhibit really high results. The air pistol champion, Wang Yifu, had not managed to qualify for the Chinese team in the 50 metre event, as each country may only participate with up to two shooters.
