- Treaty of Baden
The Treaty of Baden was the
treaty that ended hostilities betweenFrance and theHoly Roman Empire , who had been at war with one another since theWar of the Spanish Succession . It was signed onSeptember 7 ,1714 inBaden, Switzerland and complemented theTreaty of Utrecht and theTreaty of Rastatt , by which Emperor Karl VI had to accept the Utrecht Treaty in behalf of Austria. So the war was finally over. In the Baden Treaty, the formally missing terms of peace between France and the Holy Roman Empire were agreed upon.*Under the treaty
Austria got theSouthern Netherlands and the Spanish territories in Italy, i.e.Naples (yet notSicily ),Milan ,Mantua , andSardinia .
*The treaty allowed France to retainAlsace , and gave the bank of theRhine river (Breisgau ) to Austria.
*The prince electors ofBavaria andCologne were reinstated in their territories and their positions.
*Emperor Karl VI kept the title of a King of Spain and the Spanish heritage - which was in fact of no value, since in Spain the power remained with kingPhilip V of Spain alone.ee also
