Guntersville Dam is a
dam in Marshall County in theU.S. state ofAlabama . It impoundsGuntersville Lake . It is one of nineTennessee Valley Authority (TVA) dams on theTennessee River .Guntersville Dam is located at coord|34|25|16|N|86|23|35|W|, about 7 miles (10 km) northwest of
Guntersville, Alabama . TVA began dam construction in December 1935 and completed it January 1939. The dam is convert|94|ft|m high and convert|3979|ft|m wide, and has a generating capacity of 140,400 kilowatts of electricity. TVA continues as its operator. The lake and dam received its name from the town of Guntersville, which received its name from an early settler of the area,John Gunter .ee also
