June 15 ,1954 ) is an Americancountry music artist. Born inMiami, Florida but raised inGrovetown, Georgia , she is also one of only a few blind country musicians, having been so from birth. In the 1980s, Gibbs charted several hits on the "Billboard" country music charts, including "Somebody's Knockin'", a #8 country hit and #13 hit on theBillboard Hot 100 . Other Top 20 country hits in her career included "Rich Man" (also a minor Hot 100 entry), "Mis'ry River", "Ashes to Ashes", and "Anybody Else's Heart but Mine". Between 1981 and 1991, she also recorded seven studio albums, including four forMCA Records and one forWarner Bros. Records .She was also a winner of the Best New Female Vocalist from the
Academy of Country Music and Horizon Award from theCountry Music Association . In the late 1980s, Gibbs shifted her musical career toward Christian/Gospel music and signed on with New Canaan Records, a division of Word. She has continued recording on that label as well as independently while taking some time out to raise a family.
