Inaccessible Islands (South Orkney Islands)
- Inaccessible Islands (South Orkney Islands)
The Inaccessible Islands are a group of small precipituous islands ranging from 120 to 215 m high, the westernmost features of the South Orkney Islands, lying 20 miles west of Coronation Island. The Inaccessible Islands are located at coord|60|34|S|46|44|W|. The Inaccessible Islands were discovered in December 1821 by Captain George Powell, a British sealer in the sloop James Monroe, though it is possible they are the Seal Islands seen by Nathaniel Palmer a year earlier. So named by George Powell because of their appearance of inaccessibility. They are part of British Antarctic Territory.
