EBU page = http://www.eurovision.tv/index/main?page=67&country=16Sweden debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1958, and has partipicated 48 times in total. The Swedish representative has been chosen since 1959 through
Melodifestivalen .Sweden has had a turbulent history in Eurovision. Sweden has won four times; in 1974, when
ABBA won with "Waterloo"; in 1984 whenHerreys won with "Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley "; in 1991 when Carola won with "Fångad av en stormvind "; and in 1999 when Charlotte Nilsson won with "Take Me To Your Heaven".Sweden is generally considered to take Eurovision very seriously, and this is reflected in their consistently good results. Between 1983 and 1991 sweden has 6 top-five finishes, two of which were wins. Sweden has had 17 top-five finishes altogether, however there have been periods in Sweden's history when they have not done as well. Between 1975 and 1982 Sweden had no top-five finishes, only managing to peak at 8th.
Sweden was one of the first five countries to adopt televoting in 1997.
Contestants
NOTE: The totals in the above tables include only points awarded in Eurovision finals, and not the semi-finals since 2004.
On average score however, Estonia has awarded Sweden highest points per year. They debuted in 1994 and has since given Sweden an average of 6.67 points per year. Sweden has also frequently given Estonia high points (average 6.63 a year, semifinals excluded). Sweden usually also gives notably high points to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Turkey, possibly due to the high number of immigrants from these countries in Sweden. It is worthy of note that at the 2007 contest, the only countries to award Sweden any points, expcept the other Scandinavian participants, were the United Kingdom and Andorra.
