london_distance=West Leake (pronEng|wɛst liːk) is a small village and
civil parish in theRushcliffe district ofNottinghamshire . It is on theKingston Brook , betweenEast Leake (to the east) and Kingston to the west. The parish church isSt. Helena's Church, West Leake [ [http://southwellchurches.history.nottingham.ac.uk/w04/hhistory.html West Leake - History] ] .It is sufficiently small that it has a
parish meeting rather than aparish council . Its population has declined from an1853 estimate of 190 [ [http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/NTT/WestLeake/ GENUKI: West Leake] ] when the village was owned byLord Middleton to around 110 [ [http://www.rushcliffe.gov.uk/doc.asp?catid=9576 West Leake Conservation Area - Rushcliffe Borough Council] ] in 2007.The origin of Leake appears to be Laeke (Old Norse - brook or stream), and is consistent with West Leake's position in the heart of the Danelaw.
One of the earliest mentions of East and West Leake is in the
Domesday book where it is listed amongst the lands given toHenry de Ferrers "Domesday Book: A Complete Transliteration". London: Penguin, 2003. p.779 ISBN 0-14-143994-7] by the King. The land required 21 ploughs in total, there was a mill and a church and it was valued at seven pounds.A
Dew pond is situated on the hill above the village towards West Leake hills.References
