History

Clifton schoolhouse

Since 1885 there have been many "Clifton Schools" that were located where the building still stands. The first building was a one room schoolhouse where about 35 students attended until 1912 when the construction of Clifton High School was completed.

Clifton High School

From 1912 to 1947 Clifton High School was the primary secondary school in Fairfax County; the building was 2 stories high and enrolled about 600 students on a yearly basis.

The main building

In 1959; 12 years after Clifton High School was built, the main building (which is still standing) was built. In 1973 a cafeteria and a gym was added, and in 1987 an upper grade wing was built.

Outdoor Fields

A playground was built in 1990 and an upper field for grades 3-6, where most of the students play kickball, basketball, soccer, and football. Recently, a rule has been added that football is not allowed to be played because it is "too violent."

Clifton News Center

Since 1999, the morning announcements have been done by Clifton News Center often referred to as CNC. It is a 5 minute show done by 2 teachers and about five 6th graders. The show has two anchors, one teleprompter operator, one cameraman, and one sound effect operator. The show airs to the whole school.
