Adrian Cronauer , whose experiences in Vietnam were made famous byRobin Williams in the movieGood Morning Vietnam . (Since then, WPGH is now the call letters of the Fox TV station in Pittsburgh). The station was originally at 98.5 until1994 , when it moved to the current frequency.Moustache competition, November 2006
The moustache competition is a group collaborative effort created by a number of WPTS-FM station staff. The idea is to see who might grow the most impressive moustache over the month of November. The idea is based on
Jay Della Valle 'sThe Glorious Mustache Challenge . All people are invited to attend by merely growing a moustache. TheFu Manchu , thenatural moustache , and thehandlebar moustache are all options that various entrants are beginning to grow on their upper lips. The competition is open to anyone at theUniversity of Pittsburgh . This contest follows the 2005 Egg Hunt contest, which won that year's College Broadcasters Inc. award for best station promotion.Stephen Colbert incident
