IBM WebSphere

Headline text

WebSphere refers to a brand of IBM software products that are mostly proprietary [e.g. WebSphere Application Server Community Edition is not proprietary] , although the term also popularly refers to one specific product: WebSphere Application Server (WAS). WebSphere is designed to set up, operate, and integrate e-business applications across multiple computing platforms using Java-based Web technologies. It includes both the run-time components (like WAS) and the tools to develop applications that will run on WAS.

History

The first product in this brand was "IBM WebSphere Performance Pack", introduced in June 1998 [ [http://www.devxnews.com/article.php/54161 IBM Introduces WebSphere Performance Pack ] ] . Now it is a part of IBM WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment.
