- Cricket Writers' Club Young Cricketer of the Year
-
The Young Cricketer of the Year is an annual award voted by the Cricket Writers' Club for the best young cricket player in England and Wales, and has been awarded since 1950. Former recipients include Fred Trueman, Geoffrey Boycott, Ian Botham and David Gower.
The award is currently restricted to players qualified to represent England, and under the age of 23 on 1 May. Andrew Symonds was qualified for England at the time of his award, but later chose to represent Australia at international level.[1]
Only ten of the recipients of the award have not played Test cricket.[1] This includes those currently playing and with the potential to be selected in the future. However, four of those ten have played One Day International or Twenty20 International cricket.
