Brønderslev is a municipality (Danish, "kommune") in
Region Nordjylland inDenmark . The municipality was originally named Brønderslev-Dronninglund, this being the longest municipality name in Denmark. But at themunicipal council 's first meeting they decided to shorten the name to a new and shorter form: Brønderslev municipality. It covers an area of 630 km² and a total population of 35,525 (2008).On
January 1 ,2007 Brønderslev Municipality was created as the result of "Kommunalreformen" ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), consisting of the former municipalities ofBrønderslev andDronninglund . The new municipality will belong to the newRegion Nordjylland ("North Jutland Region").The city council is located in the town of
