The Black Velvets were formed in 2002 by drummer Nicholas Kilroe and bass player Dave Dutton, who joined together after their previous bands split up. Nicholas was in The Northern Souls, and Dave was in
The Skylarks . Paul Molloy of The Skylarks would later joinThe Zutons Nick and Dave hooked up with vocalist Paul Carden and guitarist Robbie Ross, and began crafting a riff-driven, deep beat classic glam rock sound, and organised showcase gigs at the Cavern Club. After some bigger gigs in London, supporting among others The Who, the band signed to
Vertigo Records in2004 .Liam Gallagher from Oasis was present at the signing, but he refused to sign as a witness, so they asked a bystander instead.The band's debut single, "Get On Your Life", was released in November 2004. The following year saw the release of two more singles, "3345" and "Once in a While", and the band's self-titled debut album. Extensive touring followed National and Worldwide. The band also played dates supporting
The Who ,Mötley Crüe ,Mark Lanegan ,Razorlight ,The Killers and appeared at theOxegen ,T In The Park ,Isle of Wight ,Fuji Rock ,Reading And Leeds ,Glastonbury ,Jersey Live andTennants Vital festivals.The Black Velvet's song "Fear and Loathing" appeared in the soundtrack to the 2005 combat-driven racing game
Burnout Revenge as well as the Playstation Portable version ofBurnout Legends .On Tuesday 21st August 2007 the band announced via their official Myspace page that they'd split up.
