Joseph "Joe" Angel is a
radio play-by-play announcer for theBaltimore Orioles ofMajor League Baseball . A native ofBogotá ,Colombia , Angel is famous for his proper pronunciation of Latin players' names.As a teenager, Angel first emigrated with his family to
Chicago , before eventually settling in theSan Francisco Bay Area . Inhigh school he playedbaseball and football (teaming withO.J. Simpson on the latter), and after graduating fromCity College of San Francisco began a career in broadcasting.In the 1970s Angel broadcast for the
San Francisco Giants (1977-8), as well asStanford University football andUniversity of San Francisco basketball . Stints with theMinnesota Twins (1984-6),Baltimore Orioles (1988-90, 1992) andNew York Yankees (1991) followed. In by|1993 he left the Yankees to become theFlorida Marlins ' first radio voice, and was behind the microphone for the Marlins' first world championship in 1997. After two years withESPN (2000-1), in by|2002 he returned to the Giants (teaming with former Orioles partnerJon Miller ); and in by|2004 began a second tenure with the Orioles.Angel always ends a home team win with "Put this one in the win column!"
