February 11, 2008Marco Rullo (born September 21, 1976) is a former professional cyclist.
Marco Rullo was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and holds dual United States and Italian citizenship. Marco raced as an amateur in 1999 for UCT Marostica in Italy before securing a professional contract. In his first year as a pro he participated in the Giro d'Italia; riding in support for Evgeni Berzin.
Marco took up residence in the States in 2003 when he signed on with Sportsbook.com Pro CT in 2003 and, after a successful season, he returned to Italy in 2004. He currently lives in Portland Oregon. His family is from Verona, Italy.
In 2004 Rullo established a new record (previously held by Italian cycling legend Marco Pantani) at the Crono Scalata Monte Grappa, covering the 26.5 kilometre, 1567 metre ascent in a time of 1 hour 2.34 minutes.
In 2007 Rullo shattered his femur in competition; which resulted in several surgeries and a year of rehabilitation — putting him out of competition for two years. In late 2009, after securing a contract for the 2010 season, he was hit by a car in training and breaking his shoulder. He retired from professional cycling in December 2009.
