The hospital opened in 1996, as a merger of the former Lidcombe Hospital and Bankstown Hospital. It was built on the site of the former Bankstown Hospital, which was later demolished. It became part of the South Western Sydney Area Health Service, which became the Sydney South West Area Health service upon a merger with the Central Sydney Area Health Service in 2005.
