Sørum is a municipality in the county of Akershus, Norway.

Sørum was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Blaker was merged with Sørum January 1, 1962.

To the north Sørum borders Ullensaker, to the east Nes and Aurskog-Høland, in the south to Fet and to the west to Skedsmo and Gjerdrum.

The name

The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old farm Sørum (Norse "Suđrheimr"), since the first church was built here. The first element is "suđr" 'southern', the last element is "heimr" m 'home, homestead, farm'.

Coat-of-arms

The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1981), but it is based upon a Middle Age coat-of-arms of a nobleman from the municipality. It shows a red rose on a gold field.
