- Watskeburt
Watskeburt is a Dutch song by the hip hop act
De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig ("The Youth of Today"). "Watskeburt" is a contraction of the Dutch sentence "Wat is er gebeurd?" ("What happened?"). Possible translations could be "Whathappened", or "Whadappend". Although the expression is almost exclusively related to De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig and the song, it was actually first coined by the Dutch rapperHeist Rockah .The song was released as a single on
May 16 ,2005 . At first, the song wasn't very successful, until several radio stations picked it up. On June 4 that year, Watskeburt entered theDutch Top 40 and eventually topped it for several weeks. The song was a hit inBelgium as well. The beat of "Watskeburt" was made by
Bas Bron , the group's producer. The first verse is rapped by Vieze Fur, and the second by P. Fabergé. Willie Wartaal is notably absent on the track. The single was also released in England. The British DJ
Pete Tong played this song on his radio show on January 23rd. After that, the management of 'De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig' decided to release this song in theUK andGermany . It was the first song in Dutch to be released untranslated in England.Fact|date=May 2007The song has been made into several parodies. "Waarsmebird", "Wattunurt" and "Opkeplurt" are just a couple. There were also parodies in a dialect (
Brabantian ) and a regional language (West Frisian). Due to the phonetic similarities between the Dutch and Norwegian languages, a parody has been made, subtitling the song with the most approximate Norwegian, but also some English, words, resulting innonsense . For example "Watskeburt" became "Vaske bur" ("Wash cages") and the sentence fragment "maar ze weten van geen" ("but they know of no") became "Masse feite farer" ("Lots of fat dangers").There is also a
remix with quotes by Belgian Walloon politicianElio di Rupo .External links
