- John Cameron, Lord Abernethy
John Alastair Cameron, Lord Abernethy, 61, was a Senator of the College of Justice of Scotland since 1992, retiring in 2007.He was a member of the English Bar before moving to the Scottish Faculty of Advocates, where he served as Vice-Dean from 1983-1992. He is one of Scotland's most senior judges.
Brief Biography
* Graduate of Oxford University (MA, Pembroke College) and is an Honorary Fellow of Pembroke College.
* Called to the Bar in 1963 and admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1966.
* Appointed Queen's Counsel in 1979.
* Advocate Depute from 1972-1975.
* Served as Standing Junior Counsel to the Department of Energy from 1976-1979.
* Served as Standing Junior Counsel to the Scottish Development Department from 1978-1979.
* Legal Chairman of Pensions Appeal Tribunals for Scotland from 1979-1992 and President of the Tribunal from 1985-1992.
* Member of the International Bar Association and was Chair of the association's Judges Forum from 1994-1998. Since 1998 has been a council member of the association's Section on Legal Practice and its Human Rights Institute.
* President of the Scottish Medico-Legal Society since 1996 and is the author of "Medical Negligence: An Introduction".
