Lethbridge Park Primary School is a
public school covering Kindergarten to Grade 6. The school community have been lobbying the state government'sNew South Wales Department of Education and Training for funding to installair conditioning for some time. This lobbying is backed by monitoring in2004 which showed that during summer, temperatures never dropped below 35 degreescelsius and relative humidity remained above 60%."Hot under the collar", p.8 Mt Druitt - St Marys Standard,16 May 2007 .]It was identified that the air conditioners could not be installed because the school's internal electrical system would not be sufficient to power them..
On
27 October 2006 , the federal government provided a grant ofAUD 118,000 to cover the upgrade to the electrical systems. Since that time the money has been held in an interest-free trust account - for a long enough time that interest earned should have been sufficient to finance the air conditioning that is still unfunded. The schools'
Parents and Citizens association has independently raised enough money to cover some of the required air conditioners, but these cannot be purchased or installed until the electrical system has been upgraded. The upgrade is currently in the tendering process.References
