Huron Carole

Huron Carole

The Huron Carole was a yearly fundraiser that collected donations for the Canadian Association of Food Banks. It did this for 17 years and collected more than $3.55 million dollars, and numerous tonnes of food. 2004 was its last year, the tour travelled across Canada and played at many stops from the east coast, all the way through to the west coast during the last few months leading up to Christmas.

A new beginning

With the retirement of this greatly successful venture, two new fundraisers will be starting, the first will be called "Singing for Supper", it will feature Tom Jackson (the founder of the Huron Carole) travelling smaller cities from Thunder Bay to Halifax, and playing concerts in churches and community halls along the way. This will begin in November 2005 (full schedule details available on their website). The second project will be called "Swinging for Supper", and will feature a series of fundraising golf tournaments, more details will be announced in October 2005.

The Cause

The Canadian food banks do have a lot of community help with these events during the Christmas season. Unfortunately, the need in the summer months does not decrease, and the donations do. They have in recent years started to do local fundraising for "Christmas in July", but there really isn't anything that is as far reaching as the Huron Carole.
