Early life
Giardina was born in Waccabuc, New York, on November 4, 1993, and she is the oldest of three girls.[citation needed] Giardina started on Broadway at the age of five and performed as Molly in Annie and small roles in Peter Pan and The Sound of Music.[citation needed] She was in TV commercials for Cheerios and Major League Baseball.[citation needed] She also appeared in comedy sketches of Saturday Night Live and The Late Show with David Letterman.[citation needed]
Music career
When Giardina was 13, she was signed by 785 Records. Giardina's first album We Got Christmas came out on November 8, 2005. The first single, "Sure Don't Feel Like Christmas", was released to radio during the Christmas holiday, and it is about a girl whose father is at war during Christmas time. Giardina also released "Dream Away", a single not released to radio or on any of her albums.
Giardina released No Average Angel in 2009. "No Average Angel" and "Hurry Up and Save Me" were featured in the Another Cinderella Story soundtrack and were released as singles. Both of the music videos for them were shot in New York City and were directed by Andrew Bennett and the first 1,000 copies of the album came with a bonus DVD featuring the two music videos.[citation needed] "Hurry Up and Save Me" became her best selling single and has sold over 150,000 digital units to date.[citation needed] The song "Hurry Up and Save Me" led her to be nominated for her first award, "Best Female Soloist" at the 2008 FanGap Choice Award. She did not win the award.[1]
Giardina released Paper Made Hearts on September 7, 2010, through Harbor Mgmt. Entertainment. It was her first and only official EP. The songs on the EP were all written by Giardina. They were chosen to "match up with Ken and barbie’s rocky relationship at the moment."[2] The EP did not chart due to it being only available digitally.
Giardina released "I'm Not Crazy" as the first single on November 9, 2010. The music video was also shot, and released on YouTube. "I'm Not Crazy" led her to her second award nomination for "Favorite Female Singer" at the J14 Rising Star Awards. The winner of the award will be announced when J14 Magazine reaches 100,000 followers on their official twitter.[3] Also in 2010, she recorded the theme song for Barbie: A Fashion Fairy Tale called "Life Is a Fairytale". The song was used in the movie and for the doll commercial. A music video was also shot for the song featuring clips from the film.
It was announced on August 15, 2011, that Tiffany Giardina had officially changed her stage name to "Gi@". According to her official twitter account she changed her stage name because: "Everyone has called me gia for years, so it's a "natural progression for me."[citation needed] She is currently working on a new album with producer, Brian Kennedy.[citation needed] Regarding her new album, Giardina wrote "The new music has a really cool vibe, can't wait to get it out!" It is expected to come out sometime in 2012.[citation needed]
Influences
Giardina stated in various interviews that her musical influences include Pat Benatar, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Audrey Hepburn[4], My Chemical Romance, and Lady Gaga.[5]
