Sara Zaker is a major theater and television actor,[1] entrepreneur and social activist from Bangladesh.

Early life

She initially started off in the field of hard core science with a major in Biochemistry. She completed her BA Honors and Masters from Dhaka University in English Literature. She also trained at the British Theatre Institute (1981).

Career

Sara Zaker's professional career began in 1995 in the field of Market Research. She is the Managing Director of MRC Mode Ltd, a market research company in Bangladesh. She is working as the project head of Nayantara Communications since its inception in 2004.[2] Nayantara is the co-producer of Sesame Workshop New York in producing Sisimpur, the Bengali edition of the Sesame Street. She is also the executive director of Asiatic Marketing Communications Limited,[3] director of Asiatic Events Marketing Limited, and the managing director of Ddhoni Chitra Ltd.[4]

Acting

Sara Zaker has been active on the stage as an actress since 1973. She works with Nagorik Natya Sampradaya,[5] a leading theatre group of Bangladesh that produced, among other plays, adaptations of Molière’s Les Femmes Savantes, Edward Albee’s Everything in the Garden, Albert Camus’s Le Malentendu, Bertolt Brecht’s The Good Person of Szechwan & Mr Puntila and his Man Matti, Carl Zuckmayer’s The Captain of Kopenick, William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Irwin Shaw’s Bury the Dead and Anton Chekov’s The Sea Gull.

With over a thousand appearances on stage, Sarah Zaker’s important performances include Kona in Badal Sircar’s Baki Itihas (The Other Side of History, 1973), Shen Te/ Shui Ta in an adaptation of Brecht’s Der Gute Mensch von Sezuan in , 1976 (The Good Person of Sezuan; directed by Aly Zaker featuring Asaduzzaman Noor as Yang Sun and Abul Hayat as Wang), and Jubati in Syed Shamsul Huq ’s Irsha (Jealousy; directed by Ataur Rahman). She was the director of critically acclaimed production of Mukhosh, (an adaptation of Ariel Dorfman’s Death and the Maiden (featuring Hayat as the Lawyer and Noor as the Doctor, 1993).

Activism

Sara Zaker is a founding member of the Board of Trustees of Liberation War Museum of Bangladesh.[6]

Personal life

Sara Zaker is married to actor Aly Zaker. They are blessed with two children Iresh Zaker and Sriya Sharbojoya.[7] Both Iresh and Sriya are working in Asiatic Marketing Communications Limited as an Executive Director and a Brand Communication Manager respectively. Their son Iresh Zaker is also an actor and entrepreneur.[8]
