The Polytechnic University of the Philippines College of Arts (Filipino: Kolehiyo ng Sining) is a constituent college of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Manila, Philippines. The School is the liberal arts college of the University, offering Bachelor degrees in seven (7) concentrations in the social sciences and the humanities, such as industrial and organizational psychology, clinical psychology, sociology, philosophy, history, library science, and theater arts. Some of the colleges of the PUP (Communication, Languages and Linguistics, Science) trace their roots on what is now the College of Arts.

History

In 1968, the Philippine Congress passed Republic Act No. 6089 creating the Faculty of Arts of the Philippine College of Commerce (the predecessor of PUP) which was empowered to offer baccalaureate courses in political science, sociology, literature, languages and the humanities.

When the PUP reopened in 1973 after its closure because of Martial Law, the FA was integrated with the Department of General Studies and Business Teacher Education (now the College of Education which was tasked to offer the curriculum Bachelor of Arts in psychology.

In June 1976, the DGSBTE was renamed as Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) with a degree program in development communication. The Faculty consisted of departments in languages, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, marketing and advertising, and physical and natural sciences.

In 1978, additional programs like industrial psychology, print technology, and library arts were offered by FAS. When the curricular offerings of PCC were ladderized under Dr. Mateo in preparation for its conversion into a polytechnic university, bachelor of arts in development communication (DevCom) became two degree programs: in broadcast communication and journalism.

On 1978 during the year-end commencement exercises, President Ferdinand Marcos signed Presidential Decree No. 1341, granting a university status to PCC.

In 1979, the FAS was reorganized into two institutes - Institute of Arts and Institute of Sciences.

In 1986, Corazon Aquino appointed Dr. Nemesio Prudente as the university president. Dr. Prudente initiated a universitywide reorganization renaming FAS as College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). He restored the former setup of the University in which each college was concerned with the offering of its programs; the task of teaching general education subjects was handled by particular service departments.
