Awards Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross Other work Farmer Otto Binnig (18 December 1923 – 27 May 2005) was a highly decorated Unteroffizier in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Otto Binnig was captured by Soviet troops in the Courland Pocket in May 1945, he was released in 1949.
